Terms of Use

Effective date: July 15, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and GateCode ("GateCode," "we," "us," or "our") and govern your access to and use of gatecode.org and related services (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) to use the Service. If you are under 18, you may use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. By using the Service you represent that you meet these requirements.

2. Accounts

  • You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide, for keeping your credentials confidential, and for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • You must notify us immediately at founder@platepals.co of any unauthorized use of your account.
  • You may not create an account for anyone other than yourself, share your account, or transfer your account to another person.

3. License to use the Service

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, GateCode grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to access and use the Service for your personal, non-commercial learning purposes.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to violate any law, regulation, or third-party right.
  • Cheat, manipulate, or attempt to game the grading system, leaderboard, streaks, points, or any other progress mechanic.
  • Attempt to probe, scan, reverse-engineer, or bypass the security, authentication, or rate-limiting of the Service, except to the extent expressly permitted by applicable law.
  • Use bots, scrapers, or other automated means to access or extract data, except for well-behaved crawlers respecting robots.txt.
  • Upload or transmit malware, viruses, or code designed to disrupt or damage the Service or other users.
  • Post content that is unlawful, infringing, defamatory, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable, or that impersonates any person or entity.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any account, system, or data.
  • Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service or its content.

5. User content

"User Content" means code, text, submissions, comments, avatars, usernames, and other content you submit to the Service. You retain ownership of your User Content. You grant GateCode a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, modify (for formatting), display, and use your User Content solely to operate, provide, secure, and improve the Service, and to display it as intended (for example, your username and points on the public leaderboard).

You represent and warrant that you own or have all necessary rights to your User Content and that it does not violate any law or third-party right. You are solely responsible for your User Content.

6. Intellectual property

The Service, including all software, lesson content, problem sets, illustrations, visual design, logos, and text created by or for GateCode, is owned by GateCode or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the limited license in Section 3, no rights are granted to you by implication, estoppel, or otherwise.

7. Third-party services

The Service integrates with third-party services such as Google authentication, Supabase, and Cloudflare. Your use of those third-party services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. GateCode is not responsible for third-party services or content.

8. Educational content disclaimer

Lesson materials, examples, and code executed within the Service are provided for educational purposes only. GateCode does not warrant that the materials are complete, accurate, current, suitable for any particular purpose, or free of errors. Do not deploy code from lessons or user submissions into production or safety-critical systems without independent review.

9. Beta features and changes

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice. Some features may be labeled as beta or experimental and may be changed or removed. We are not liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuance.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account by contacting founder@platepals.co. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms or if we need to for legal, security, or operational reasons. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including Sections 5, 6, and 11 through 15.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise. To the maximum extent permitted by law, GateCode disclaims all warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty arising out of course of dealing or usage of trade. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or that any content is accurate or reliable.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will GateCode or its officers, employees, or affiliates be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenues, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses arising out of or related to your use of the Service. GateCode's total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amounts you paid to GateCode in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).

13. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless GateCode and its officers, employees, and affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your use of the Service, your User Content, or your violation of these Terms or any law or third-party right.

14. Governing law and dispute resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. You and GateCode agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Delaware for any dispute not subject to arbitration, waiver, or small-claims procedures available in your jurisdiction. Nothing in this section limits any rights you have as a consumer under mandatory local law.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, provide in-product notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

16. Miscellaneous

These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and GateCode regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force. Our failure to enforce any right or provision is not a waiver of that right or provision. You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent; we may assign them freely.
